Range Renovation Completed

Angeles National just completed a 6 week renovation and improvement of our practice facility.   As one of the first courses to participate in an innovative water conservation project with the LADWP, this may serve as a model for courses in the future. We have replaced over 60% of the turf in the practice area with the overall goal to reduce the required turf and water allotment needed to maintain our grass practice facility.   This situation presented us with the opportunity to not only save water usage, but to also improve on the practice area from a visual standpoint, maintaining the same professional all grass teeing ground.   We are excited to have been able to provide golfers with realistic targets and the image of a fairway landing area with contrast target greens.  Our objective is to give the golfer the sensation of playing a golf hole while practicing specific shot options.

3 inches of dark wood chips were added to the sides of the range, outlining the fairway area of the practice facility.  Additionally, 3 inches of lighter wood chips were added to the existing target greens to help add contrast and define target greens in the landing areas.  We also planted 27 Oaks and Sycamores, native trees to the region.  Bubbler irrigation was added to each tree, allowing us to place the optimum and exact amount water to each tree, limiting any waste.

As water becomes more expensive and less available, the golf industry continues to work towards conservancy and innovation to provide the best possible playing conditions so we can all enjoy this great game.

If you haven’t been out the practice facility lately, stop by and check out the new look.  We believe you will be happy with the results.   Not to mention, we just added 4,500 new golf balls last week.  Photos to follow shortly, once the sun comes out in a day or so.

Have a great day and enjoy the course.
